Fundraising for projects associated with facilities and programming.
Our Peterborough Community Center (PCC)
The Peterborough Community Center recently reopened thanks to grants of more than $1,000,000 for the much-needed repairs of a former armory built in 1949.
In 2005, the armory closed and sat idle for 5 years — reopening in 2010 as the Peterborough Community Center (PCC), adopted by the Town and administered by the Recreation Department. A Town Meeting vote in 2009 paved the way, stipulating that the PCC would not be supported by tax dollars, but by the Recreation Department Revolving Fund and other sources of revenue.
Friends of Peterborough Recreation Projects was formed in early 2023 as a 501(c)(3) with the purpose of fundraising.
Upgrades, improvements and repairs took place, but the 75-year-old infrastructure was in desperate need of major renovation and repair.
In April 2023 the Town of Peterborough applied for a $1,000,000 Community Center Investment Program grant to renovate the PCC. Peterborough was granted the maximum amount awarded by the CDFA, with 15% in matching funds from the Recreation Department’s Isabelle Miller Fund.
The Town was able to reduce expenses and ensure a streamlined construction process by bundling the PCC renovation, new Fire Station and the DPW garage renovation, all under the contract with Harvey Construction.
Friends of Peterborough Recreation Projects secured a $40,000 Amplify Fund grant from M&T Bank’s Charitable Foundation, allowing the PCC to install mini-splits and cover the cost of electrical upgrades.
Today, the renovated Peterborough Community Center is better than ever. Bustling with activity morning, noon and night, it is poised to remain a vital hub of Our Town for the next 75 years.
Your donation to Friends of Peterborough Recreation Projects (FPRP) will help us continue to improve the Peterborough Community Center, support the operations of our non-profit and help fund future projects that fulfill our mission to raise funds through community involvement for projects associated with the facilities and programming of the Peterborough Recreation Department.
The corporation is organized exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 510(c)(3) of the U.S.Internal Revenue code.
